Looks Like Heaven

I love Chinese food. I love crab rangoons. I love tacos. Imagine my delight when I came across these:

Joe Mama’s Bar and Grill Rangoon Tacos

These heaven-on-earth tacos can be found at Joe Mama’s Bar and Grill. They are not served daily, only as a special. These come disassembled, so you have to construct them yourself.

The only issue I have with these tacos is that they are located in Wisconsin and I am in Texas, to be precise, 990 miles away. If you are ever in Wisconsin, go visit Joe Mama’s Bar and Grill and hopefully these will be on special when you go.

Since I cannot jump in the car and drive 15 hours for these tacos, I decided to hit Pinterest and compile the recipes I would need to make these at home. This is a work in progress and I will be sure to post when I actually make these. I just wanted everyone to have the opportunity ASAP to go to Joe Mama’s or attempt these at home.

I went through quite a few crab rangoon recipes until I found this recipe. The ingredients sounded about right to me. I’m sure you could substitute soy for the Worcestershire sauce and use either real or imitation crab. The filling consists of lo mein and fried rice. I chose beef lo mein and vegetable fried rice. Yes, the fried rice recipe is for chicken fried rice, but I will leave out the chicken. I liked the recipe because of the ingredients, not too many, not too few. You can use whatever lo mein and fried rice recipes you like.

I also browsed through a ton of taco shell recipes. The “tacos’ at Joe Mama’s are made from wonton wrappers. The recipes for shells had various methods to get the correct shape, but I found what may be my new favorite kitchen gadget. Behold the Taco Tongs.

HIC Taco Shell Tong, Steel, For Making Homemade Taco Shells

There were a few other options, but most were to big unless you have a restaurant style deep fryer at home. I do not have that kind of deep fryer, nor do I want one, so the Taco Tongs will work just fine.

As you can see from Joe Mama’s tacos, these are not appetizer sized. You will need large sized wonton wrappers to make these. Our small town Walmart doesn’t carry the large size, so I found these on Amazon.

These would be my last resort option, as they are pretty pricey. I’m sure if I head over to the Dallas area, I could find these in HEB or a specialty Asian store.

That is what I have compiled so far. I will post an update once I have made these. Hopefully that will be soon, because my mouth has been watering the whole time I was typing!!!
