I’m still job searching. I can’t wait until I no longer have to say that, and I’m sure you’d like to stop hearing it. I’m now searching for remote positions since this town obviously can’t handle my experience level. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. My last job was a hybrid, but mostly remote work, so I know what to expect. There are pros and cons to working remotely. If you’ve never worked remotely here are the best things about it:
- Work attire can be pajamas if you choose. As long as I didn’t have to be on camera for a Zoom call, I was in comfy clothes the entire workday.
- No road rage. Not driving to work was great. I didn’t have to deal with any idiot drivers. I didn’t have to spend money on gas. I wasn’t putting a ton of miles on my car.
- Breaktime was anytime. Well not anytime, but I could pop into the kitchen and grab a snack or a glass of water whenever I wasn’t on a call. And I wasn’t spending money on coffee in the morning, or lunch.
- No annoying co-workers to interrupt my day. There’s always one that drives you crazy. Working from home, you still might have one, but they aren’t standing in front of you and you can always say “oh, I’ve got another call coming in, gotta go!”
- My office was as big as I wanted it to be. Most days I was in my home office which was my second bedroom. On occasion I might take my laptop into the living room and work for a change of scenery, but I usually needed all three of my monitors to work so I was in the office.
Now there are a few negatives to working from home. For me, the BIGGEST negative is not meeting anyone. I’ve lived here for almost 2 years and the only friends I have here are the people my boyfriend is friends with. My last job was during COVID so I could go days without seeing another human since I lived alone. Fortunately, my job was COVID related, so if I needed to get out I did have an office I could go to or on occasion I would visit sites.
If anyone reading this has any leads on remote positions, let me know. I’m trying to stay positive, but I feel beat down at this point. Say a prayer for me that I find a job SOON! Until next time…..
